One Day in Jakarta: Blok M and Senayan Itineraries, with Opening Hours and MRT Tips

One Day in Jakarta: Blok M and Senayan Itineraries

In short: For a walkable day of parks, creative spaces and food, choose Blok M: Taman Literasi, M Bloc Space, lunch in Little Tokyo and Gultik after dark. For a green, active day, choose Senayan: a run at GBK, Hutan Kota GBK (closed Mondays), Plaza Senayan and Senayan Park. Both are on the MRT North–South Line.

Blok M and Senayan sit a few stops apart on the same MRT line, yet they show two very different sides of Jakarta. Blok M is compact and lived-in, built around food, small shops and street life. Senayan is open and active, with runners circling the national stadium and a city forest in the middle of Jakarta’s busiest districts.

This guide follows our “One Day in Jakarta” reels and adds what the videos cannot show: opening hours, closing days, how to get between stops and what to check before you set off.

Hours and distances from Enjoy Jakarta (Taman Literasi, M Bloc Space) and CNN Indonesia.

09:00 · Slow morning at Taman Literasi

Taman Literasi Martha Christina Tiahahu opened in September 2022 as a public park built around reading, learning and recreation, according to Enjoy Jakarta. It is managed by PT Integrasi Transit Jakarta and is open 24 hours a day.

The park has a modern library, open green space and an area that community groups use for activities such as yoga and pilates, and it hosts talks, book launches and workshops. As a first stop, it shows Blok M’s quiet side: a coffee, a walk around the gardens or half an hour with a book before the area gets busy. MRT Blok M BCA station is about 190 metres away.

11:00 · Creative break at M Bloc Space

M Bloc Space sits in the former housing complex of Peruri, Indonesia’s state banknote printer, on Jalan Panglima Polim. Peruri developed it with the creative group Ruang Riang Milenial as a space for local brands, cafés, food stalls and live music, according to Enjoy Jakarta and Peruri. Expect murals, small shopfronts selling local labels and plenty of places to sit with a drink.

It opens daily, from 10:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and 07:00 to 22:00 at weekends. There is no parking, so come by MRT, Transjakarta or ride-hailing. It is about 400 metres on foot from MRT Blok M BCA.

13:00 · Lunch around Little Tokyo

The streets around Melawai are known as Little Tokyo for their concentration of Japanese restaurants, izakaya and shops. It is one of the easiest places in Jakarta to find Japanese comfort food, from ramen to curry rice. Several restaurants open only for dinner, and some close between lunch and dinner service, so check the hours of the place you have in mind before you walk over.

15:00 · Get lost a little around Melawai

The afternoon is for wandering: Melawai’s side streets, the shops around Blok M Square and the steady movement around the bus terminal. Much of Blok M’s character is in small discoveries, such as a bookstall, a record shop or a snack counter. For more green space, see our guide to exploring Taman Bendera Pusaka in Blok M.

After dark · Stay for Gultik

Gultik, short for gulai tikungan or “corner curry”, is a row of street stalls at the corner of Jalan Mahakam and Jalan Bulungan, near GOR Bulungan and Blok M Plaza. Vendors have sold gulai with rice here since the 1980s and only start setting up in the late afternoon, as CNN Indonesia reported in May 2026. Plan it as dinner, not lunch. To carry on into the night, see our guide to the best nightlife spots in Blok M.

07:00 · Morning run at Gelora Bung Karno

The Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex is more than a venue for big matches and concerts. On ordinary mornings, the ring road around the main stadium fills with people walking, running and stretching before work or school. Kompas reported in August 2026 that the ring road operates for the public in the morning and afternoon. Go early, while the air is cooler. You do not need to run; a few laps at walking pace are enough.

Concerts, matches and exhibitions can close parts of the complex or make it very busy. GBK’s official account, @love_gbk, posts schedule changes and access information before major events.

09:00 · Slow down at Hutan Kota GBK

Hutan Kota GBK is a city forest inside the complex: trees, lawns and walking paths in the middle of Central Jakarta. It is the kind of place that makes visitors stop and say, “Yes, this is still Jakarta.”

Entry is free. According to GBK’s official account, it opens Tuesday to Sunday in two sessions, 06:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 18:00, and is closed on Mondays. Arrive by 09:00 to enjoy it before the morning session ends. It can also close temporarily around large events; in August 2026 it closed for several days while an event was set up nearby, as Kompas reported.

12:00 · Lunch at Plaza Senayan

By midday, Jakarta’s modern side is close by. Plaza Senayan is a long-established mall with restaurants, cafés and department stores, and a cool place to sit down after a morning outdoors. It opens daily from 10:00 to 22:00, according to its official account.

15:00 · Explore Senayan Park

Senayan Park, known as SPARK, describes itself as a lifestyle mall with outdoor space: a large lake, parks, a jogging track, a rooftop garden and a Skywalk with views over the city. It opens from 10:00 to 22:00 every day. Spend most of your time outside, by the lake or up on the Skywalk as the light changes. If you still have energy, Hutan Kota GBK’s afternoon session runs until 18:00.

Can you do both in one day?

Yes, if you start early and keep the plan simple. Both areas are on the MRT North–South Line, so you can move between them without a car:

  1. Morning in Senayan: GBK ring road at 07:00, then Hutan Kota GBK before its morning session ends at 10:00 (Tuesday to Sunday).
  2. Midday: take the MRT from Istora Mandiri or Senayan Mastercard to Blok M BCA.
  3. Afternoon in Blok M: lunch in Little Tokyo, then M Bloc Space and Taman Literasi.
  4. Evening: Gultik for dinner.

You will skip Plaza Senayan and Senayan Park, but you will see the most distinctive part of each area.

Getting there: MRT stations and practical tips

  • Blok M: MRT Blok M BCA and ASEAN stations. Taman Literasi is about 190 metres from Blok M BCA, M Bloc Space about 400 metres. Blok M Terminal and the CSW interchange connect many Transjakarta corridors.
  • Senayan: MRT Istora Mandiri and Senayan Mastercard stations. Which one is closer depends on the GBK gate or venue you are heading to.
  • Event days: roads and parking around GBK fill quickly on concert and match days, and GBK’s official channels encourage visitors to use public transport.
  • On foot: wear comfortable shoes, and carry water and a cap for the outdoor stretches.

Before you go: a short checklist

  1. For Senayan, avoid Mondays, when Hutan Kota GBK is closed.
  2. Check @love_gbk for events or temporary closures around GBK.
  3. For Blok M, check your lunch restaurant’s hours; some places in Little Tokyo open only for dinner.
  4. Leave the car at home. M Bloc has no parking, and both areas are on the MRT.
  5. Save Gultik for the evening.
